Empowering Women through Livestock: Vimukti Trust Distributes Sheep
worth Rs. 2,24,000 for 32 economically poor families for Sustainable
Livelihoods:
On August 29th, 2024,
Vimukti Charitable Trust, Pothnal, took a significant step toward
women’s empowerment and poverty alleviation by distributing sheep to
32 families from Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The event, held at the
Vimukti premises, aimed to foster self-reliance and economic
independence among rural women. Vimukti’s Taluk Coordinator,
Jayashila Dotharbandi, highlighted the importance of self-sufficient
livelihoods in combating poverty, noting the gaps in government
schemes that often fail to reach those in need. By providing sheep
worth ₹2,24,000, Vimukti offered these 32 families a vital economic
lifeline and encouraged their active participation in community
development.
Fr. Satish Fernandes, Director of Vimukti, presided over the event,
emphasizing the need for greater awareness and education among women
to help them advance economically and socially. The event was
attended by key community figures, SHG leaders, and dedicated staff
members, with Smt. Jecintha Muddanaguddi warmly welcoming the
participants. This sheep distribution initiative stands as a
powerful testament to Vimukti’s unwavering commitment to empowering
marginalized women and promoting sustainable development in rural
communities.
