“Education has to produce the perfect
man, sound in character, active in mind and strong in body” says
Plato. We know that education plays a very crucial role in one's life
regardless of age, caste, class, creed, gender, religion, region and so
on. Education is inseparable and has become a part of the necessary
requirements of life like food, shelter and clothing. The aim of free
tuition is to provide supplementary education to children in our
villages and to bring them up to an academic level where they can
compete with children from developed urban when they reach 8th standard
(at the age of 13). The leap from village schools to secondary schools
in urban often results in truancy (drop-out) and depression. Since our
village children, being financially challenged they cannot afford
tuition, hence the quality education still remains elusive, irrespective
of their geographical proximity to it.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic arrived, schools were shut and students from
rural backgrounds and marginalised communities have been left without
access to education. The pandemic has interrupted all walks of human
life, but especially the lives of marginalised communities, as they were
predominantly subjected to menial jobs. Students from these communities
can’t afford online education as some don’t get good internet
connectivity, while others can’t afford the gadgets necessary, due to
the financial crisis. This pandemic is an addition to the already
existing baggage in their lives. Therefore, vimukti tuition centres
provide very poor rural children in the targeted villages to have access
to free tuition every-day evening except on Sundays. These tuition
centres are established basically to enhance the school experience of
the village children by providing them assistance in completing their
homework, clarifying their doubts in their subjects, paying more
attention to weaker subjects of the children and to provide the children
with sports, cultural activities cleanliness, good habitual practices
toilet usage, etc. are taught to them. Till this date we have 670
children (1st to 10th standard) who come for the tuitions and benefiting
from this program.
