“Literacy is the ability to identify,
understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute using printed
and written materials associated with varying contexts. Literacy
involves a continuum of learning in enabling individuals to achieve
their goals, to develop their knowledge and potential, and to
participate fully in their community and wider society,” A person
without functional literacy has to face numerous challenges right
from household chores to social life, and can end up having a low
self- esteem or being incapable of speaking for him or herself. This
ultimately leads to a lack of confidence and a low level of
productivity. Raising literacy rates is one of the biggest
challenges in rural communities today. This forms the backdrop to
the adult literacy programme implemented by Vimukti Charitable
trust, Pothnal.
The Adult Literacy Program is a unique initiative and implemented by
Vimukti in collaboration with Zella Lok shishana Samithi, Zella
Nagara Shishana Samithi Raichur. Intensive training program was
