children members from Utakanoor Grama Panchyath submitted the
memorandum on 22nd of August 2018 in demanding concerned panchayath
president to form Child Protection committee in their Gram Panchyath.
The main objective of this CPC Committee is to address child rights
and provide more awareness and spread knowledge among children,
parents and the society in general. A CPC is a group of individual
including duty- bearers, who are primarily responsible for creating
and promoting a child friendly and safe environment wherein all
children well-being, safety and rights are protected.
Every GP shall have a child CPC under the Chairpersonship of the
president to recommend and monitor the implementation of child
protection services at the GP level. The committee shall include
Government officials from various departments such as Gram Panchyath
PDO president members, Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM) accredited
social health Activist (ASHA), preschool teachers, school head
master/ mistress, SDMC members of the schools, coordinator/Vimukti
staff/ parents and club and parliamentary children and civil society
representatives. It has been entrusted with the task of dealing with
child-related issues in the respective panchayat, curb crimes
against children, including abuse and sexual assault, and take
issues to the appropriate authorities for action, which is
mandatory. Though many times reminders were given yet concern
authority has failed to form and to protect children and their
rights. Parliamentary and club children discussed this issues in
their monthly meeting decided, and came together submitted the
memorandum to GP President and requested concerned authority to give
in writing that when he will fulfill this demand. The School
headmaster, teachers, SDMC members, VCT staff applauded and
encouraged children in this great venture.
