Free tailoring center opened for rural poor girls at Sirivar- Manvi Taluka
Some or the other reasons women are been marginalized and looked down upon in some parts of our Indian society. Due to ignorance or lack of specific implementation of plans, local communities especially the women are not getting the scope and benefits of government schemes and programs. Some of them have not actively participated in their emancipation due to their lack of economic independence and illiteracy. There is a concrete need to address the issue by raising the standards or the status of women. Keeping these issues in mind VIMUKTI recently opened a free tailoring center for the empowerment of adolescent girls/ women. In this training center, tailoring skills are imparted at free of cost. Students are trained by a well qualified and professional tailoring teacher. Further as a sign of appreciation and encouragement certificates are given to those who successfully complete the course in tailoring. These tailoring classes enable women/Girls in rural and sub-urban areas to earn their daily living, making them self-confident and self-dependent. After successfully completing six months training, some women/Girls can start their own tailoring shops, while the others can secure a well-payed job in the export garment factories in the nearby areas, or sub-contract work in large tailoring shops.
