Physically challenged children participate in the awareness programme at vimukti on World Disability Day

"A true friend knows your weaknesses but shows you your strengths; feels your fears but fortifies your faith; sees your anxieties but frees your spirit; recognizes your disabilities but emphasizes your possibilities says William Arthur War . We human beings are unique and gifted one or the other way. The need of recognising it and encouraging each other is the need of the time. We are to be true friends especially to the physically challenged people.

Vimukti Pothnal on the day of disability day organised an awareness programme to the otherwise able children. There were about 60 disable people who participated in this awareness programme. The director of vimukti addressing the gathering said, “we as human beings not to lose our hope and we must create such an atmosphere which is suited for our living, this requires our initiative, and never to lose hope in ourselves. We must consider ourselves precious in the society. We are part and parcel of our society and we have the ability to live in the society. Low self esteem makes us more vulnerable in the society. As a result we are psychologically affected by the thought we have about ourselves. We are equally good and goodness must be found in our abilities. According to my view Government should not fail to provide support to these disable people. Vimukti from the past makes every effort to promote the life of the children and has taken major steps to help such children. There are various concrete steps are taken for the betterment of the children.

“Being disabled should not mean being disqualified from having access to every aspect of life” says Emma Thompson. Mr. Desai the representative of disability committee Dotharbandi said that we must celebrate world disability in the light of the aid of Government and the vimukti charitable made this also possible to all other able children. Rev. Fr. Richard Kadiwal the vice principal of Sneha Jyothi Vidyalaya pothnal as the president of the programme mentioned the need of positive thinking in the children. In the world at large people who were physically challenged have prospered due to their strong will power and degrading oneself of the ability is the harm that one can do to oneself. We need to come up in life and we are indeed blessed with various talents. We need to recognize our talents and make the best use of them. Mr. Nandakumar and President Mrs. Savitramma Byagavata were present at this event.

There was a long discussions on various problems which they faced in their day to day life. Mr. Desai gave some guidelines and solutions as how to deal with real life situations. He also helped to form groups of such children in and around Pothnal according to their abilities; various responsibilities were shared at this juncture. All the participants were served delicious meal on this joyous occasion and transport facility to reach their homes. This event was indeed a memorable one to the children who participated in it. We must thank with sincere heart the vimukti staff who made all the arrangement and planning of this event with the timely guidance and support of Director Fr. Sathish. We wish all the success to this institute for their every effort of promoting the better future of the children.
