Convergent action to strengthen community based Child Protection.”

Introduction:

Transformation of society through education is a long drawn process, more so in India. Despite best efforts, the tangible benefits cannot be seen but only felt at a micro level. The Vimukti charitable trust (VCT) has been the silent yet significant torchbearer of this transformation.

VCT is progressing day by day and here we would like to share something very special as it laid foundation to form a new drift “CHILD RIGHT CLUBS”. It is for the first time introduced in the Panchyath of Manvi Taluka. VCT has formed child right clubs in 21 Gram panchayath. Looking deeply of its benefits for the children this pace would work successfully. After all the most beneficiaries would be none other than the children themselves. They can bring changes in their lives, in their surroundings and in the society at large. We know that the child right clubs is a powerful force in the present day society. It can directly involve eradicating multiple defects and evils of the society. As the children are the future citizens of the society this new trend trains them to be effective instruments of the society.

Formation of Child Rights clubs in 15 Gram Panchyath of Manvi Taluka: Child rights clubs were formed in 15 Gram Panchyath, having regular visit and organizing the meetings once in a month and mold those to have right education in living disciplined life and gain their rights and enjoy their childhood life. The main aim was to make children aware of the powers of a parliamentary democracy. They would know how to be a responsible citizen and the importance of involving themselves in community affairs. Children could learn about the democratic processes, the right to vote, the rule of law and the power of a fair ballot. In the coming years, they would also be educated on topics such as deficiency of nutrients in children, lack of safety in school buildings, travel-related problems, and rehabilitation of children in the context of Act to prevent Child Labour, child dropout, child marriage, child abuse etc. secondly they would gain the knowledge of how to address local issues with the elected representatives of civic bodies.

To teach them to understand and act according to the four basic rights like Right to Live

2. Right to Protect 3. Right to Progress and 4. Right to participate. Children are trained to teach other children to involve in social action and help vulnerable children to gain their right education and health. High school Head master leads the child right club meetings every Saturday. In each child rights clubs have four secretaries who are responsible in leading the meetings in where all children participate and discuss the issue of the children and formulate the rights of the children. Swearing in ceremony for not to become child laborers child marriage and to fight for child right issues was taken after the training of child rights clubs.
