Case study:
“Anganwadi Children, Happy and Grateful”
Sunkanuru is a village which comes under the panchayat of Utakanur
in Manvi taluka. It is a small village which has 210 families. This
village consists of a government primary school and one anganwadi
centre.
In the anganwadi there are 62 children who are below the age of 3 years.
Whereas 42 children in the village are between the age of 3 and 6 years,
and only two children are studying in 2nd grade. There are 55 pregnant
women, 38 postnatal mothers and 16 adolescent girls who are
beneficiaries of this anganwadi center.
All the 171 people of the village have a system of getting food-related
products from the government scheme. But for two months the supply of
food products was stopped and the people were voiceless. Here we have a
first-hand report.
“I, Parvati, one of the members of the anganwadi centre in our village
had made known the inconvenience faced by the people to the government
officials but there was no reply at all. But still we are trying to get
milk for children from the scheme.
A few days ago when one of the Vimukti staffs, Mr. Charlie, had visited
the anganwadi center I shared with him the issue of food supply. Soon
after my meeting with him he went to the government officials and
inquired about the scheme. But he received a poor response. Then the
Vimukti staff decided to publish this news in the newspaper. As a
result, within 2-3 days the officials supplied the food products to the
anganwadi centre. The people of the village were happy and they
appreciated the good work done by the Vimukti staff.
I am very grateful to the Vimukti staff, Mr. Charlie for his timely
advice and whole hearted support. The Vimukti centre is a beacon of
light. On behalf of all the villagers, I thank the Vimukti centre and
wish that it may grow and do more good work for the poor, especially
women and children in the society.”
