Tailoring Skills & Livelihood Support for Women: Vimukti Pothnal

Since 2012, Vimukti Charitable Trust (VCT) has been empowering economically vulnerable women and adolescent girls through six-month, job-oriented tailoring and fashion-designing training. Participants develop practical skills in blouse stitching, Zari work, school-uniform stitching, and basic entrepreneurship, along with guidance on marketing and accessing financial support. VCT provides essential tailoring materials, and successful participants receive certificates upon completion. 75 women benefited from this training, with many going on to establish home-based micro-enterprises and earning around ₹6,500 per month as supplementary family income.

This additional income helps families meet household needs, pay children’s school fees, and provide essential educational materials. More importantly, the programme has strengthened women’s confidence, dignity, financial independence, and self-reliance, enabling them to become active contributors to their families and communities.
