Breaking Barriers, Building Confidence: Adolescent Girls Engage with Police for Child Protection: Vimukti Pothnal

As part of the GOOD Project, an Open House Programme was organized on 15 January 2026 at the Kavithal Police Station for around 50 adolescent girls from Devipur, Pothnal, Udbal, and Marakandinni villages. The programme aimed to build confidence among adolescents and create awareness about child protection.

The police staff warmly welcomed the girls and guided them through the police station, helping them understand its functioning. Later, an interactive session was held where the girl s received awareness on child marriage, child labour, social media safety, the POCSO Act, and child protection mechanisms. The police emphasized the importance of reporting abuse without fear and informed the participants about support services such as Child Helpline 1098 and emergency number 112.

The session helped reduce fear and hesitation towards the police, highlighting the role of people-friendly police stations and the Child Protection Unit in safeguarding children. The programme concluded with lunch for the participants, leaving the girls informed, confident, and empowered.
