Vimukti Pothnal
celebrated Makar Sankranti Suggi Sambhrama with great joy and
traditional spirit at its campus on 13th January 2026, with the
participation of children, parents, staff, and community members.
The campus was beautifully decorated with rangoli, colourful kites,
sugarcane, earthen pots, and paddy, reflecting the richness of the
harvest season. Mr. Jayasheela Dottarabandi explained the cultural
and environmental significance of the festival, highlighting it as a
symbol of gratitude to nature and new beginnings.
Fr. Sathish Fernandes, Director of Vimukti, emphasized the
importance of preserving Indian traditions and passing cultural
values to the younger generation. Special prayers were offered to
Mother Nature, til-gud sweets were shared, and children actively
took part in the celebrations, making the event joyful and
meaningful. The programme promoted cultural awareness, community
bonding, and respect for nature among children and families. Nearly
110 stakeholders attended the program.
