“No one can
celebrate a genuine Christmas without being truly poor…Only the
poor, the hungry, those who need someone to come on their behalf,
will have that someone, Emmanuel, God-with-us”. - St. Oscar
Romero, Christmas, 1978
Vimukti Pothnal takes the initiative to celebrate Christmas with
less privileged families. We always believe less privileged families
are excluded from all the celebrations and we made a point to
include them in our celebration. We visited all the tents of the
migrants and welcomed them for the program and we distributed
Christmas cake, and sweets. The program began with a welcome note
and followed by cutting the Christmas cake. The migrant families are
living in tents made of tarpaulin sheets. These families have come
from across the states working as road constructions. On this
occasion migrants’ families had sumptuous meals together and various
lucky games, and winners were distributed prizes and gifts. Nearly
150 members joined in this celebration.
