A tailoring unit, which aims to provide
livelihood opportunities for Bhuvaneshwari SHG women who have suffered
economic losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was inaugurated in Vimukti
center premises at Pothnal. The unit will be run by SHG women from
Pothnal. Vimukti organization facilitated the setting up of the unit
with five tailoring machines. Fr. Sathish Fernandes Vimukti Director,
said the pandemic had left many poor women from underprivileged families
in deep financial crisis. “With the help of Ensemble Agissons sponsors,
the Vimukti supplied essential commodities to those who reached out to
us during the lockdown. But it was felt that they needed a regular
source of income. So, the unit was started”, he said. Initially seven
women are employed five as tailors and two others for other work- at the
unit. The objective of the Vimukti organization is women must turn their
steps towards the self-employment to help themselves and their families
to make financially stable.
This Center first of all provides the training program to make them
expertise in stitching the new clothes with different designs, to
prepare the bags and paper covers. It also will train them to stitch or
alter the old clothes. Present were the Mrs. Girijaram, the Taluka
Coordinator, UNDP; SHG members like Mrs. Premamma, Mrs. Bhagyamma, Mrs.
Huligemma, Mrs. Shanthamma and Mrs. Ambika added the colors and boosted
the women; Vimukti staff Mr. Charlie Udbala, Mr. Arogyappa Dumathi, Mrs.
Jacinthamma Muddanagudi, Mrs. Shilpa, Mrs. Eshamma Sunkanuru, and Ms.
Sunanda did witness this program. The program was organized by Mr.
Jayasheela, Dotharabandi. “On a positive note, the unit has received
orders to stitch cloths. Many others have promised to give orders to the
unit.”
