With reverse migration, the works under
MGNREGA are picking up the pace in the villages of Manvi Taluka. The
people from Pothnal region had migrated to Maharashtra, Telengana,
Bengaluru, Mysoru, and other places in search of jobs to eke out the
living. Now they are travelling back to their native places after the
lockdown was enforced to contain the spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Vimukti team, Pothnal conducted a door to door survey and motivated
migrated families, daily wage workers to tap MGNREGA Scheme more
effectively. As a result many migrates workers in our project area have
been involved in digging recharge pits, check dams, bricks
manufacturing, road constructions etc and also initiated to apply new
job cards. Vimukti team also urged the concerned department to give 200
days’ work and should issue the job cards to those who don’t have the
job cards. Hence, the government should extend work days under this
scheme without delay.
