Local administration fails during lockdown to provide nutritious food to
the Pregnant, lactating mothers and children: Vimukti Pothnal
It has been brought to the notice that in
the Toranadinni and also nearby villages of Pothnal that under the
Anganvadi- Central Government scheme of providing nutritious food to the
pregnant and lactating mothers has been totally neglected during
lockdown period. Under ‘Matr Purna’ project and children up to the age
of 0-3 and 3-6 years are supposed to get cereals, grains, milk, eggs,
and pulses so on. The pregnant, lactating mothers have to get 150gm
rice, 24 to 25 eggs per month, milk, pulses, grains and cereals. It was
Government’s action plan in view of eradicating malnutrition, promoting
child health development; reduce the number of infant and mother
mortality rate. It is a wonderful initiative taken by the Government.
But the fact is that the local Panchayat administration has failed to
provide as per the expectations. The village women addressed this issue
and their problems to the Vimukti staff. There was strong outcry on the
equal and fair distribution of pulses allotted to them. They also
submitted memorandum to get an amicable solution. The concerned
authorities are requested to address the issue as soon as possible.
