Vimukti Pothnal in collaboration with
Loka shishana Samithi Raichur conducted the training program to
selected women Panchyath members from two clusters, Manvi Taluka at
Vimukti premises. The adult literacy training targets to enhance the
learning, reading, writing and cognitive skills of adults from the
most marginalized communities in an around Manvi Taluka Raichur,
North Karnataka; The main “aim is to extend educational options to
those adults, who have lost the opportunity and have crossed the age
of formal education, but now feel a need for learning of any type,
including, basic education (literacy), skill development (vocational
education) and equivalency.” The project strives to address the
functional literacy of adults, women in particular. This will lead
to higher self-esteem and self-confidence enabling them to engage in
economic activities. Improved functional literacy will directly
impact on people’s ability to understand their rights, and claim
their entitlements, enabling them to be able to influence Govt.
policies that affect them. Dr. Veer Nayaka EO Manvi inaugurated the
training, Mr. Vijay kumar, Mr. Sundar Kapagal, Mr. Jaysheel Talula
coordinator and Miss. Lalitha and Gowaramma were the main resource
persons. Nearly 3058 women/men are getting trained and benefitting
from this program.
