Director Fr. Sathish Fernandes along with the staff attending the
training on Social Security and Good Governance- Realizing
Entitlements at Indian Social institute New Delhi from 23rd to 25th
July, 2019. Hundred and eighty NGO Representatives from 12 states
attended this Seminar. The participants who belonged to the
religious minority communities were eager to know about their rights
that are enshrined in the constitution of the country. The focus of
the seminar was to make participants aware of their rights that are
enshrined in part three of the constitution and various other
statutes of our country. Article 30 of the constitution gives to the
minorities the right “to establish and administer educational
institutions of their choice”. The honorable Supreme Court of India
has interpreted and elaborated these two rights in its various
judgments’. The resource persons have taken participants through
these various judgments’ and made them understand the deeper
meanings of their fundamental rights as given in our constitution.
Besides the constitutional provisions, the topics dealt with in this
seminar were on various pensions and social security, health
insurance, Ayushman Bharat, Jan Swasthaya Abhiyan, various health
facilities, factors that affect social security and RTI as a tool to
enhance the effective implementation of social security, Gram Sabhas:
leveraging Gram Panchyaths in Ensuring social Security, etc. Prof.
Shiv Visvanathan, Dr. Tripurari Sharma, Mr. Shankar Singh, Shri.
Mani Shankar Aiyar, former minister of Panchayath Raj, Ms. Anjali
Bhardwaj, Mr. Dilip Kumar Ms. Dipa Sinha the right food campaigner,
were the main resource persons who enlightened the participants. The
participants greatly benefitted from this seminar and enlightened by
the various acts and Schemes.
