Vimukti Charitable Trust® Pothnal
organized programs on personality development camps in the targeted
villages of Manvi taluka. Our Adolescent Girls Training Program is
focuses on building adolescent girls’ capacities for individual
empowerment and social survival especially in patriarchal
environments that do not value and respect the rights of girls and
women. VCT tackles gender inequality head on to ensure that women
and girls become advocates for their human rights and build their
self-esteem and self-worth. The program further provides knowledge
and skills that empower girls to detect and deal with children’s
rights violations and provides them with critical thinking skills.
Our program covers important life skills so girls gain the knowledge
of their rights and confidence to demand their right to stay in
school, reduce gender-based violence, and avoid early pregnancy and
marriage, child marriage, child trafficking, school dropouts and to
avoid all kinds of fear and superstitions beliefs, prevalent in the
villages.
The main topics covered under this programmes are: Personality
development, Health and hygiene, HIV/AIDS, contagious diseases,
reproductive health, physical growth and mental changes, gender
discrimination and Information on protection during sexual
harassment. 158 adolescent girls actively participated and benefited
from the camps. They also shared and discussed their adolescent
problems with the resource persons and received satisfactory
solutions.
