Blood is the fluid that gives life,
growth and health. Every year on 14 June, countries around the world
celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event, established in
2004, serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood
products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving
gifts of blood. World Blood Donor Day is one of eight official
global public health campaigns marked by the World Health
Organization (WHO). With these key note from Fr. Elvin Lopes Sneha
Jyothi Boarders organized World Blood Donor Day on June 14, 2018 to
mark this event Mr.Charlie was chief guest, spoke of the benefits
and the myths about donating blood. By donating blood we become life
savers and real hero and a ray of hope to someone in need of blood
and Mrs. Nagarthna the staff nurse guided the children and spoke of
the purpose of the event. She explained about the importance of the
day. Transfusion of blood and blood products helps save millions of
lives every year. It can help patients suffering from
life-threatening conditions live longer and with a higher quality of
life, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures. It also
has an essential, life-saving role in maternal and child care and
during the emergency response to man-made and natural disasters.
Children were motivated to be voluntary blood donors when they are
grown up as today there are fewer volunteers to donate blood. They
were enlightened of the loopholes and the societal stigma on
understanding about blood donation. They assured to be future blood
donors.
